(More customer reviews)I'm an retired construction project manager(commercial/industrial) and I fully researched this Hitachi drill/driver before I purchased it.It's replacing a great 13 year old Porter Cable 12V d/d (with Magna-Quench!), for which good batteries and chargers are now all but non-existent.
In the month I've had the Hitachi, it's drilled 1/2 in holes through 65-70 4x fence posts, a number of concrete holes for patio and threshold repairs, a bunch of small starter holes for cabinet and shelf installs, not mention countless wood, concrete, and sheet metal screws.I love it!
It has about double the power of my old PC, has the added features of the hammer for concrete work and the opposed handle, has excellent battery lasting power (only had to change once during a big all day job) but is about the same weight as the PC.When I first got it, it looked like a Flash Gordon ray gun, but now it's starting to burly up.
Great price and quick delivery from Amazon.Highly recommend this d/d for a pro who needs the drill power and for all-around home use. It's a great compromise of power, weight, versatility, and price.

View larger.Setting the DV14DL to hammer mode is as simple as turning the clutch mechanism to the 'T' setting. Once in hammer mode, the DV14DL features an impact rate of 0-21,000 BPM for breaking up concrete or brick.
Two-Step Speed Switch for Maximum Control
The DV14DL's unique two-step speed switch offers a total of four speed settings for tackling various applications with greater precision and control: 0-200, 400, 850, and 1,750 RPM.
Additionally, high-speed and low-speed settings are located right on the top of the drill, and a switch-over lever located on the handle lets you change the speed setting to Power Mode for greater power or Save Mode for slower speeds and greater battery preservation.

To start, a built-in five-position belt hook offers convenience on the job, and an integrated LED work light provides illumination in dimly lit areas. HXP Lithium-Ion Batteries Last Longer and Weigh Less
The DV14DL comes with two 3.0-Ah HXP lithium-ion batteries. These batteries weigh half of what traditional NiCd or NiMH batteries weigh--in fact, tools featuring HXP batteries are on average one pound lighter than tools using traditional batteries.
Additionally, HXP batteries last three times longer than their competition. Where NiCd and NiMH batteries could be used for up to 500 charge cycles, HXP Lithium-Ion batteries can be used for up to 1,500 charge cycles!
HXP Lithium-Ion batteries operate within optimal voltage limits, protecting both the tool and batteries from damage. Protection circuitry built into the batteries and charger monitors the charge and discharge for each battery cell, resulting in peak operating performance.
If a surge in power is detected during use, Hitachi's Over-Current Protection technology will temporarily shut of the power to protect the batteries and tool from being damaged. This feature allows the power to return to optimal voltage, thereby extending battery and tool life beyond any competitive lithium-ion products.
