I picked this item up a couple of weeks ago and am greatly pleased with the performance so far. I was in the middle of a roofing project and needed a good, stout, cordless to perform a variety of tasks. As an added benefit, Home Depot had a sale on power tools that gave me a discount of $25.00 and it included a free impact driver in the kit (Limited time thing I guess).

The drill felt very solid and good in the hand. It had a nice balance to it, partially due to the fact that the battery is smaller and lighter than other 18 volt batteries I seen. The battery/drill weight ratio seemed to give it a more natural feel.

I put it through the paces over the last week. I had to do some spade work in the tresses to run some wire (I installed some lighting and some outdoor outlets while the roof was open), and I used it to screw down the sheeting. On top of that, the drill was also used to make holes for the lighting to wire the lighting fixtures and run conduit for the outdoor outlets and drive the screws for the mounting hardware. When it came time to remount the eaves, new holes had to be drilled for the aluminum spikes to attach the eaves to the fascia. It handled the long bit without issue. Most of the roof work involved drilling through hard 2x6 maple (the house is old and had hardwood for the rafters).

The battery life was pretty decent. I ran screws, nearly non-stop for about an hour and a half before the battery died. The recharge time is excellent, requiring only about a half hour charging time before it was ready to be used when the second battery dies. With the two batteries, work never had to be halted due to charge time.

I read a number of online reviews where the testers really put this thing through a heavy pace and all seemed quite pleased with the performance. I did see a couple customer reviews on these sites where the owner experienced some power issues. Ridgid has an excellent warranty on their drills, and this item is applicable for their free lifetime service agreement (LSA). If anyone were to encounter an issue, a trip to the service center (or maybe a replacement at the store purchased from) would resolve it. The batteries, charger, and drill are all covered under the LSA, which makes me quite comfortable in recommending it.
